Hello and welcome to the Canary Classics 2020!
Before you go on to the event information, let me tell you a little bit about the backstory of this event and its location.
The Canary Classics will be held at a beautiful beach on Fuerteventura. Back in January 1994 the American Star, a ship with a long history and many different names throughout the years, ran aground at the westcoast of Fuerteventura after the tow lines broke during a storm. The ship broke in two and was left there. The stern section sank two years later. The wreck collapsed more and more over the years until in 2007 the last remaining visible parts broke and fell into the sea.
Please refer to the Wikipedia article for more information, I can only recommend it (:
For this event I'd like to pretend that the shipwreck at the status of around 2002 - 2006 is still there. I loved it as a setting, the colours of the rusting ship and the mood it conveys. Of course you can also refer to any other version of it, if you prefer that. There are many cool inspiration pictures if you just google for American Star.
The Canary Classics also mark the start of the Lost Places Tour, an event series of three events at abandoned places around the world.
The event takes place on the first September weekend (September 4th - 6th, 2020).
THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS THE 29th NOVEMBER 2020
The results for all classes except for the tour (CSI4*) will be randomly rolled with random.org. Every class has a minimum number of entrants to which the class will be filled up with ghost competitors to reach this number. If you're entering that class your result will be somewhere between 1st place and that number. The tour has its own judging concept, which I'll explain further down.
Pre-registration is not required When you've finished your entry just leave a link to it in the comments; please add all necessary informations about the horse, the rider and the class you're entering in the artist's comments of your entry
Entries should be at least half-body with a full background Please don't re-use backgrounds or lines; Collabs are allowed
Location: Playa de Garcey, Fuerteventura, Spain
Shipwreck of the American Star in the background
Because of the current situation there won't be any spectator stands. There's only a very limited amount of spectators allowed and these which are there have to wear masks on the showground. However, you can add flags, camera platforms, tents (the event organization will sit in those), whatever you like...
The event will be broadcasted, so that as many people as possible can watch the event if they want (even if not in real).

............................................................................................................................
What does self-judged mean?
Accuracy: 0 - 2 points (I'll only check if the location somewhat resembles a beach scenery and whether the class you're entering is halfway correctly displayed - just maybe don't draw a pirouette in a jumping class. Nothing else. I won't check on weather or tack and I will not be fussy about anything.)
Effort: 0 - 3 points (this does NOT depend on the amount of details you put in your entry. I won't compare your entry to your gallery standard or whatsoever, I'll just check for a minimum of refinement)
Impact: 0 - 5 points (Please note that this is the most subjective thing about the whole judging matrix and I can't be an objective judge. What is important to me is that your entry sparks any kind of feeling. It can have sad vibes, crazy vibes, be completely colourful, abstract or stylized. Try to get the feeling you'd like to display across. If your art touches your heart it will surely touch mine as well!)
Creativity: 0 - 5 points (Creating something other than the standard harpg show entry will earn you most points here. This category goes hand in hand with the impact score, but it adds a bit to it. It is about every technical and subjective aspect: colours, composition, style, ... Honestly, I was tempted to just say "the most creative entry wins", but I decided to stick to a bit more transparent way of judging.)
Storytelling: 0 - 2 points (This is not about a written story, though if you write something I'll consider it in this category as well. But what is mostly meant by this category is whether your entry tells a story just by looking at it.)
Overall impression: 0 - 3 points (In this category I'll look at how well everything fits together, whether the concept works or not and if the perspective is not completely off. Don't worry, I won't be nitpicky)
Fairness score: Not crediting your references or bad sportsmanship can lead to a deduction
And here's the little twist about the judging: I want you to judge your own art. Nobody knows your art better than you, so who could better judge it? Who knows more about the work and time you put into it, then you yourself? So once you've finished your entry, please use the above matrix to give yourself scores and send them to me in private (either by sending me a note here on dA or by messaging me on discord; Fibonacho#5654). You can give half points, as well. Feel free to also inform me about the hours you've worked on your entry, your process and difficulties and how you finally came up with your final concept (no need to do that, though).
And please be fair.
I will also judge your entry and our scores will be counted together for the final score.
In case you do not send me own scores, I might double my own score or fill out your scores randomly (I haven't decided that yet).
This is a test of how well something like this would work, I'm just curious about it. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below.
I reserve the right to change the way of judging if it does not work.

To sum it all up: I want you to enjoy drawing something for this show. Try that thing you've always wanted to try, go wild with the colour scheme, the pose or composition. Do what you always felt did not fit into any HARPG show and have fun! Don't stress yourself over the tiny little details.
RESULTS!

Aliyska tagged the dude - thanks, this was fun : D
1) What's their FULL NAME (First, middle(s), last)
Dorian Turs
2) Do they have siblings? if so what are their names/ages
He has an older sister, Caitlin Turs, she's three years older than him (currently 27)
3) What were they like in their elementary, middle and high school phases?
Elementary school:
He was a rather quiet, sweet boy, not the best in school, but not bad either. Despite growing up in a tiny village, he's always had a lot of friends. He used to attend voluntary lessons for cross flute and sang in the school choir. At home he cared for his family's sheep (and sometimes tried to ride them, too).
Middle school:
Dick slowly grew up to become a cheeky dude, to become the class clown. He started to get obsessed with the thought of owning a horse. His grades were very volatile, on some days he brought home the best work of the class, on others he just couldn't be bothered. He kept playing the flute and singing.
High school:
He finally reached his goal and got his own horse, Black Bess. No more flute from then on, but singing always remained one of his passions. His grades improved (he was never an overachiever, though) and despite his bold personality he was one of the teacher's pets. They somehow seemed to like the discussions he started with them. The girls liked it as well. When he graduated from high school he decided to move to Germany for a while to start on his riding career and study there (at least that was the plan).
4) What is their hometown?
Ahenny, Tipperary, Ireland
5) Did they go to college? If so what for? and did they graduate?
Yes, one and a half years (for the parties). He studied communication management, but dropped it when he noticed that it wasn't quite what he enjoyed - and things in the equine world started to go extremely well for him. His sister still disapproves of that decision - and she makes sure to let him know regularly.
6) Are they married, single, in a relationship, or crushing on someone who has no idea? Hmmmm, it's complicated.
7) Don't be shy tell us their name~
My lips are sealed, sorry.
8) How do they get along with that person?
Well of course! They tease each other and make stupid bets. And other stupid stuff. They're a crazy and chaotic duo.
9) What's your favorite canon moment that's happened and no one else knows about?
When he got his dog Doofy, he knew they were made for each other. Thanks to the time he spent in Germany he knows about Dick & Doof.
10) Do they have kids? Do they want kids?
I don't know... he definitely wants some, but look at him, he's 23 right now, he couldn't handle the responsibility just yet.
11) What do they currently do in the stable?
He's mostly training and competing the horses, mucking out the stables, caring for his very own little foal, spoiling his mare, wreaking havoc sometimes, cleaning his beloved leopard print boots and doing whatever work is there that needs to get done.
12) Do they have a job outside the stable?
He is the lead singer of an admittedly not well known band, but from time to time they still perform when they have time for it.
13) How do they entertain themselves?
Doing bets or going out for a drink with his friends - just to be that one friend that always has to do the embarassing stuff (like dancing on a pole). Watching Curling on TV is okay, too, but just when it's an important game (or Tipperary wins. Like last year :D) Video games are not so much of his preferred activity.
14) What's their biggest fear?
I don't think he ponders so much about his fears. He's a young and reckless dude and his life is exciting, he doesn't really has the time to think about fears. If he had to name one he'd say losing his beloved ones, though (including his sister).
15) How do other people see them? does this affect them or do they brush it off?
They probably see him as a reckless and fun to be with guy with a gusto for Irish Whiskey. He does what he wants (as long as he's not causing any harm to anybody else) and he doesn't really care about what other people think of him. #leopardboots <3
16) Do they have exes? if so what's their name, what happened </3
Too many to name. But he's never been in a really long relationship. He's the type of guy that's making out with a new girl every other week.
17) Do they have a strong relationship with their parents?
Yeah... he's closer to his father than his mother, but he loves them both. He calls them once a month, because they insist on that.
18) how often do they see them?
Rarely. They still live in Ahenny, while he's working on the other side of the big pond in New York. He visits them whenever he's in Ireland for an event, though.
19) Why did they not go to bed until 4 am??
Who needs sleep?
20) Can they do tricks??
Yesss and he will take on any opportunity to show them! He can do a lot of tricks with pens, with coins and has only recently learnt a few card tricks. Oh, also breaking an apple in halves with his pure hands or opening beer bottles with a folding ruler or another beer bottle - that's a winner at parties.
21) Are they pretty much the same through the stages (toddler-adult) or have they gotten more mature? less mature? etc.
I don't think he's ever been mature or will ever be completely mature, but I hope to see him making at least some steps towards maturity in the next few years.
22) Do they have a phobia?
Thank goodness, no.
23) What's their favorite animal
Horses and dachshunds. Maybe sheep.
24) What's in their fridge. you heard me.
Don't ask. Too much unhealthy stuff (including beer of course!) hidden behind a handful of vegetables and cheese.
25) Give us a secret~
He would kill me if I did.
26) How would they react to a random confession text from their crush?
He probably wouldn't respond for a week and then just write "Okay, same" or something like that. He's not a romantic person, he rarely has crushes (just girls to make out with) and he can't handle situations like these.
27) What do they fear losing the most?
See 14). Aka his beloved ones. People and animals.
28) What was their worst injury as of now?
A broken arm. He's had a lot of luck in his life. Knock on wood.
29) Which of their parents do you think they take after more, in looks, personality or both
In looks... his mother. In personality... hard to say, because these two are both quite reasonable persons.
30) If they're on their deathbed who would they want by their side? (Can have 3 and only 3!)
As I hope that this won't happen in the near future, I'm assuming that his parents have already died by the time he's about to leave the world. So: His future wife and children. (Let's hope he won't get more than two children then? But if he had to choose between children, he'd choose the first-born and the last-born).
Tagging... hmm I'd like to tag Aliyska s Viti if I'm allowed to tag back xD
1. John actually prefers darker horse colours, in fact, he doesn‘t even like greys that much. But a good horse doesn't have a certain colour, right?
Of course it doesn't change anything about how much he loves Rocky and Sally - she is and will always be his best friend.
2. He tends to answer questions before the questioner even finished them.
Some might find it a bit annyoing and he doesn't even like it himself, but he can't stop.
3. He sometimes identifies as "octopus", because of his lanky figure and the long limbs. He even finds it hard sometimes to coordinate them properly.
He demonstratively waves his arms around as if they were floating in water when he tells stories about him feeling like an octopus again.
4. He matured a lot during the last year, got happier and lightened up. Gloves used to be his best friends, but he developed and now is more confident about showing his hands without. He just stands for that he’s "not whole" anymore and doesn't care about being seen with his artificial hand. It became a part of his life and changed it even to the better in the end.
5. John is very reticent and a complete miscast as jabberbox. But he really enjoys a relaxed deep talk in the evening with a close friend, a cup of tea and a plate of vegetables or fruits.
And it makes him a good listener. Friends say about him that they like that he always has a sympathetic ear for them.
6. He can eat all day without gaining any weight. In fact, you would actually find him in the kitchen all the time, if he wasn't at the stable. He tends to forget about food when he's there, so often only eats a breakfast and dinner and nothing at all in between.
7. He’s often the first to be at the stable. Getting up early and enjoying the morning is one of the things he LOVES. On the other hand he gets tired and falls asleep very early. It's not much fun to invite him to an overnight party. He'll yawn and blink tiredly all the time.
8. Just finished his studies: He made his master in International Management and Hippology this year by distance learning.
2. Doesn’t like Guiness (but it’s okay to start with), prefers Irish Whiskey.
Not all irish people like Guiness, okay? It’s fine to start with if you don’t have anything else, but the sooner they switch to something more high-proof, the better. Other kinds of beer is okay, though, it’s just Guiness.
3. Owns exactly 27 pairs of red socks. Red socks are gorgeous.
He used to buy a new pair whenever he placed well at an event, but it soon got out of hand and now he only brings them as souvenirs whenever he visits another country (or when his favourite red socks run short – which he thinks is every 2 or 3 weeks, even though he still has 11 pairs. But since his favourite red socks are some of the cheapest you can find, he always declares that it is okay to buy new ones.). He also wears them until they’re nothing but one big whole.
4. Grew up on a sheep farm in Ireland, but always preferred horses.
His parents own a sheep farm in Ireland. When Dick was little he sometimes tried to climb on a sheep and ride it. One of them, called Dolly, was sweet-tempered enough to let him do it and play with him. She always watched out carefully for him and he brought her treats in return. But he still preferred horses and his biggest wish when he was young was to become a professional rider. When he was 11 years old their neighbor bought a pony and Dick was allowed to ride it two or three times a week. That was the time when he was irreversibly infected by the horse virus.
5. He doesn’t have a problem with admitting when he was wrong. Usually.
As he often thinks aloud or talks before he thinks, he often makes errors in reasoning. But he usually notices it fast and corrects himself or admits he was wrong then.
6. It says Dorian Turs on his birth certificate. Why would he prefer Dick over Dorian?
There are four reasons: First, he finds it funny. Second, he is well aware of the fact that he can be quite a dick sometimes, so finds it quite accurate. Third, Dick Turpin was his role model when he was younger and since Turpin sounds similar to Turs, he decided that he wanted to be called Dick, too, from now on. And last but not least he read Dorian Grey, didn’t like him and didn’t want to be identified with him. Buuuut, some persons are allowed to call him Dorian, for example Elli.
7. Very "talented" with his hand, he can do a lot of coin tricks and pen tricks. Mostly to impress girls.
Ask him and he’ll show you some. It’s always a good way to start a conversation and he likes being asked how he does it and if he’ll teach it. Of course he does, he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to shine (even though he would never show or admit it).
8. He is very good with young horses
Especially in getting up to nonsense with them is something he really likes. Young horses are great <3
(9. Turds became his nickname. Not only for Steven, for me, too. I call him Turdl meanwhile...Thanks jbdezoveelste )
Dick is weird. That's a fact, too.
